A Korea immigration-office visit usually fails before you reach the counter . The wrong office, no required reservation, an incorrect petition type, missing residence evidence, or a deadline misunderstood as an appointment date can turn one administrative task into several visits.
Part 9 is therefore not a directory of immigration offices. It is a practical system for deciding whether you need to visit at all, which office handles your case, what must be done before the appointment, and how to leave with a clear next step.

1. First Ask: Do I Actually Need an Office Visit?
Many immigration tasks now have an electronic route through HiKorea. Before reserving half a day for travel, check whether your petition can be completed by e-Application or another approved reporting channel.

2. Jurisdiction Is Part of the Application
Korea has immigration offices, branches and specialized locations with defined jurisdictions and functions. Your home address is often central to determining the correct office for stay-related petitions, while particular services can have their own handling structure.
Even within Seoul and the surrounding region, different districts and cities fall under different immigration offices. A location that is physically closer may not be the office responsible for your address.
3. Do Not Confuse Headquarters, Airport Immigration and Your Local Office

4. Reservations Are Not an Optional Convenience for Many Stay Petitions
Korea operates a nationwide immigration visit-reservation system through HiKorea. Official guidance requires advance online reservation for major in-person stay petitions including foreign resident registration, extension of stay, change of status, granting status, activities outside the status of stay, and specified workplace-change/addition procedures.
5. Some People and Procedures Have Reservation Exceptions
Official guidance provides exceptions to the online reservation obligation in specified circumstances. These include certain vulnerable or urgent applicants such as people aged 70 or older, pregnant women and other listed cases. Refugee applications and immigration-offense examinations also follow different reservation treatment.
An exception means you should verify the applicable service method; it does not mean every immigration office visit becomes unrestricted walk-in service.
6. Reserve in the Applicant's Real Name
The official reservation guidance requires the reservation to be made in the petitioner's name. A reservation can be made after login or through the supported non-member identity-verification route.
Keep the reservation confirmation available. Official guidance says a reservation receipt can be printed and presented when visiting the competent office at the reserved time.
7. Same-Day Reservation Is Not the Backup Plan
Official guidance states that reservations can be made from the day after the reservation request; same-day booking is not available. This matters when a stay deadline is approaching.
8. Extension Timing Creates a Specific Planning Problem
For extension of stay, official guidance allows application from four months before the current authorized stay expires. An in-person application must be filed by the expiration date; where an eligible extension is filed online, it must be submitted no later than the day before expiration.
This is why Part 3 recommended early planning. Part 9 adds the operational lesson: secure the filing route or reservation while you still have choices.
9. Documents Should Be Built Around Your Petition, Not Around a Generic Folder
There is no single “immigration office document pack.” A Residence Card extension, change of status, workplace matter, F-5 application and nationality petition prove different things.

10. “I Brought the Same Documents as My Friend” Is Not a Strategy
Two applicants with similar jobs or nationalities can still need different evidence because their exact status, employer, residence, family circumstances or petition type differs.
Use another person's checklist only as a clue. Build your final checklist from the current official requirements for your exact status and petition.
11. Residence Evidence Is a Frequent Failure Point
Proof of current address appears across many stay procedures. The correct evidence becomes less obvious when the lease is in a spouse's, friend's, employer's or accommodation provider's name.
Part 4 explains the residence-evidence problem in detail. For an office visit, the practical rule is simple: do not assume a Residence Card showing an old address proves where you currently live.
12. Foreign-Issued Documents Need Lead Time
Family, degree, criminal-record and civil-status documents may require apostille, consular authentication, translation or another accepted form depending on the petition. A missing authentication cannot always be repaired at the counter.
13. Originals, Copies and Digital Files Should Not Be Treated as Interchangeable
If the current instructions require an original, certified document, copy, electronic upload or particular format, prepare that format. A photo on your phone is not automatically a substitute for an official document.
Keep a personal copy of important submissions and receipts where permitted. It helps if a supplementary-document request arrives later or you need to reconstruct what was filed.
14. 1345 Is Most Useful When You Ask a Precise Question
The Immigration Contact Center provides immigration and Korea-living consultation and multilingual service. Current official information lists weekday counseling from 09:00 to 22:00, with Korean, English and Chinese available after 18:00; multilingual service is broader during daytime hours.
Better question: “I hold E-7-1, live in Mapo-gu, my stay expires on November 18, and I am changing employer. Which petition applies, which office has jurisdiction, and what current documents should I verify?”
The more accurately you describe your status and intended action, the more useful the answer can be.
15. Know What 1345 Can—and Cannot—Do
1345 can explain immigration procedures, office jurisdiction and service information and can provide multilingual assistance. It is extremely useful for resolving uncertainty before a visit.
But a telephone consultation is not the same thing as a formal approval of your future application. If eligibility depends on evidence and legal assessment, the responsible authority decides the petition.
16. A Major 2026 Change: Employment Information Reporting
From January 2, 2026, Korea introduced online employment-information reporting for foreigners subject to the reporting requirement. The official rollout covered occupation, industry and annual-income-bracket information at registration/residence registration and changes to previously reported information.
During the January–June 2026 pilot period, online and paper reporting were both accepted. Official implementation guidance stated that from the second half of 2026, reporting would be online only , including required pre-visit online reporting for affected people visiting immigration offices.
17. At the Counter, Separate “Missing Document” From “Not Eligible”
If the officer says something is missing, find out whether the issue is a supplementary document, incorrect form, wrong procedure, jurisdiction problem, or a substantive eligibility issue. These lead to very different next steps.
Useful questions:
What exact document or correction is required?
Is there a submission deadline?
Can it be submitted electronically, by mail, or only in person?
Does the current application remain pending while I supplement it?
Is there a receipt, reference number or written notice I should keep?
18. Do Not Leave With Only a Verbal Memory
Keep the application receipt, payment record, reservation information, supplementary-document notice and any reference number that applies to your case. If the result will come later, know how it will be communicated or checked.
This is especially important when a deadline, employer, school, family member or upcoming trip depends on the outcome.
19. If Your Application Is Pending, Do Not Assume Everything Else Freezes
A pending petition does not automatically suspend every other immigration or real-life obligation. Address changes, employment changes, travel plans and expiring documents can create separate issues.
If circumstances change while a case is pending, check whether the change must be reported and whether it affects the application.
20. If You Move While a Nationality Case Is Pending
Nationality cases can last much longer than routine stay petitions. Official immigration guidance instructs naturalization applicants who change address to report the new address; applicants who want the interview handled by the office with jurisdiction over the new address may also need a separate interview-location-change request at the appropriate stage.

23. A Better Immigration-Office Workflow

2. Check whether HiKorea can handle it online.
3. If in-person, confirm jurisdiction.
4. Check the legal filing window/deadline.
5. Reserve the visit where required.
6. Build a petition-specific evidence set.
7. Complete required pre-visit online reporting.
8. Use 1345 to resolve precise uncertainties before the appointment.
9. At the counter, clarify any deficiency and its deadline.
10. Keep the receipt and track the result until the case is actually complete.
